Technology & R&D
A phone-powered screening device that brings newborn hearing testing to the bedside — and to places no screening van reaches.
Under Research & Development
The problem
Every child deserves to be heard from day one. Newborn hearing screening within the first days of life is the single most important step to catch hearing loss early — when intervention matters most for speech, language and learning.
Yet most babies in India are never screened. Conventional screening equipment is bulky, expensive and confined to a few large hospitals, while trained audiologists are concentrated in city centres. Families in smaller clinics, maternity homes and rural areas are left out — and hearing loss is often discovered only after a child falls behind.
Our solution
We are building a compact screening device that pairs with an ordinary Android phone. One kit does both OAE and ABR screening, so the same handheld unit works for a quick bedside check or a fuller confirmation test.
Specifications & advantages
- Phone-powered over USB-C — no internal battery to degrade, charge or replace.
- Dual testing in one device: OAE probe and ABR electrodes.
- Ultra-compact handheld form factor for bedside rounds and rural field screening.
- Mobile app shows the live waveform and delivers a clear pass/refer result.
